TANGUAR HAOR, SUNAMGANJ, SYLHET. SUSTAINABLE TOURISM IN BANGLADESH.
Review:
Tanguar Haor is just one of the many international attractions to be explored in Bangladesh. These include the 120km continuous natural sea beach; the Sundarban, the world’s largest mangrove forest which is home to the Royal Bengal tiger; and especially the world’s largest river system of over 700 rivers, branches and tributaries, which include the delta of two of Asia’s greatest rivers, the Ganges/Padma and the Brahmaputra/Jamuna.

Tanguar Haor is a 100 sq km wetland and ‘inland sea’. Home to over 200 species of aquatic plants, 140 species of fish, 208 indigenous bird species, 100 species of migratory birds, 34 species of reptile, and 11 species of amphibian, it is one of Asia’s most magnificent natural environments. It is already a veritable Mecca for dedicated naturalists and birdwatchers as well as photographers, and those simply seeking the tranquillity of such an environment. It is also a vital resource for both nation and continent.
Inevitably, it could be the visitors who will destroy what they seek to enjoy. In developing and supporting the development of tourism the key word has to be sustainable, ensuring, not only access, but also the protection of environment and wildlife, as well as the livelihoods of the local people.
Remotely located in the far north of the country, it’s very remoteness has, hitherto, protected it, but already a number of tour companies plan speed boat and launch trips into this paradise. One company, however, is building the first, environmentally sensitive craft in Bangladesh, with solar panels for night security lights, waste recycling and waste water retention as well as energy efficient engines.
The craft will accommodate, in international 3 star cabins with a/c and h/c bathrooms attached, up to 26 tourists, though more can be accommodated for study tours with students. Catering on board will be provided by the local communities, as will other supplies, to ensure that they also share in the economic benefits of the initiative.
This approach is an innovative one in Bangladesh, much of whose outstanding natural environment is already under threat. Introducing Srimangal
Review:
Put the kettle on and let’s have a nice cup of tea. But have you ever wondered what goes into producing that little bag? Well, in Srimangal (or Sreemongal), the tea capital of Bangladesh, you can find out all about it. This hilly area, with tea estates, lemon orchards and pineapple plantations, is one of the most picturesque and enjoyable parts of the country. For miles around, tea estates form a perennially green carpet on the sloping hills, and it’s the one area (besides the Sundarbans) where it is possible to look around and not see another human being. In addition to learning all there is to know about tea, you can also go primate-potty in a range of forest national parks, get the low-down on tribal life and discover that pineapples don’t actually grow on trees.
Sreemangal is an upozilla of Moulovibazer. It stands on the northern-eastern side of this country. It’s area about 450.74 square km. It is surrounded by Moulovibazer sadar, tripura kingdoom, Kamalgonj, Chunarughat & Bahubal upozilla. There are 47 tea estates in Sreemangal. Bilash a remarkable is river is flowing beside Sreemangal. Beside this there are so many canals in here. Sreemangal is consisted in 9 Wards, 20 localities. The population of Sreemangal is 21,596 and 33% male & 46.67% female among the population. Literacy rate are average 61.06%.
Sreemangal (Srimangal) is prominent for the Tea over the world. There are so many small & larger Tea gardens in Sreemangal. Some of the world’s largest tea gardens are in Sreemangal. Must visited places of Sreemangal are Tea Gardens, Lawacherra Rain Forest, Madhabpur Lake, Khasia or Monipuri Polli. Lawachara National Park is the most attractive and thrilling place in Sreemangal which is about 160 km northeast of Dhaka, 60 km south of the city of Sylhet. The park was established as a National Park in 1996, incorporating an area of 1,250 hectares. Lawachara is 8 km from Sreemangal by road. There are various species in Lawachara like jackals, small cats, barking deer, wild pigs, gibbons, langurs and macaques etc
Srimangal is at its best during the rainy season because all the tea garden and Lawacherra forest, Madhabpur lake are in full bloom then. If you can want to visit or travel Bangladesh please don’t forget to go Sreemangal.

Sylhet Relway Station
Review:
Sylhet is a major city in north-eastern Bangladesh. It is the main city of Sylhet Division and Sylhet District, and was granted metropolitan city status in March 2009. Sylhet is located on the banks of the Surma River and is surrounded by the Jaintia, Khasi and Tripura hills. The city is approaching a population of 500,000 people while also having a high population density. It is one of the largest cities in Bangladesh. The Sylhet region is well known for its tea gardens and tropical forests, the city however is currently known for its business boom – being one of the richest cities in Bangladesh, with new investments of hotels, shopping malls and luxury housing estates, brought mainly by expatriates living in the United Kingdom.
Sylhet has a history of conquests and heritage from different types of cultures. The city is described as a City of Saints, with the mausoleum of the great saint Hazrat Shah Jalal, who brought Islam to Bengal during the 14th century, being located
here. During the next few centuries it was part of the state of Assam during the rule of British India, after independence between India and Pakistan, Sylhet was then part of East Pakistan based on a referendum, and is part of Bangladesh as of today, which also played a major role in the Bangladesh Liberation War during the 1970s.
The train station (T. 717036 for reservations) is on the south side of town. There are three express trains a day for Dhaka, departing at 7.30 am, 2.30 and 10 pm (winter hours). The trip normally takes about seven hours. There are also two daily trains to Chittagong, departing from Sylhet at 11.30 am and 10.30 pm and taking about 9 and 1/2 hours. Only the night train to Dhaka has a sleeper car.

Osmani International Airport
Review:
Two boarding bridge just installed on new appron. Nevertheless, on 3 November 2002, the airport received its first international arrival. Biman flight BG020 from Kuwait via Abu Dhabi landed at 10:05 with 215 passengers en-route to Dhaka.[2] The disembarking passengers on the inaugraul flight were greeted by then Finance & Planning Minister, M Saifur Rahman and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin. For a brief period, Biman also operated a direct service from London but was later re-routed via Dhaka
.
The airport was initially served by domestic flights from Shahjalal International Airport by the country's national airline Biman Bangladesh Airlines. After many years of lobbying by expatriates living in the UK, limited expansion of the airport was carried out to enable medium-sized aircraft, such as the Airbus A310 used by Biman, to operate. The work was completed in October 2002 and the airport was designated an international airport by the government. However, the airport was not up to international standards to be capable of fully accommodating international flights due to many shortcomings with the instrument landing system and runway lighting system and was seen as a move to stave off pressure by the government.
.
Interior view of Osmani international airport.
Additional expansion of the runway and improvements to the runway lighting and airport facilities were commenced in 2004 to enable wide-bodied aircraft to safely land and takeoff from the airport.
The South Asia Transport and Trade Facilitation Conference report of 2006 (by the United States Trade and Development Agency) noted that the development of the airport "up to the standards of [an] international airport" to "encourage private sector participation in air transport" were projects that were under consideration by the government.
Work started in 2006 to upgrade the terminal facilities to enable handling of international flights. The improvements include construction of a new terminal building, two Jetways and a taxi-way. In May 2007, the foreign affairs adviser, informed journalists that the works were on scheduled for completion in June 2007. He also confirmed that Biman will be operating Hajj flights directly from the airport during the Hajj season later in 2007. However, the runway expansion works had not been completed in June with the foreign affairs adviser indicating in August that "minor dressing work" still remained. The work was finally finished in December 2008. A new budget has been passed that said that the airport is getting a new refueling system, expanding the airports and the runway and adding two new more runways,it is getting new instruments for control tower and runway, new terminal,6 more jet ways, and lighting instruments for all runway the project is supposed to start in 2011 and suppose to end at 2014 these new improvements will turn the airport into a true new international airport,it is said to that Antonov An-225,Boeing 747-8 or even any larger aircraft then that could land easily.Airlines and destinations
